What is Acne?

Acne, It’s all something most of us are afflicted with at some stage of our lives.  It doesn’t matter how many home remedies you try, how many acne treatments you give a go, it just keeps on coming back.  I know – I have had worse acne than most people I know!

Acne is caused by pores which some times get blocked.  Oil which normally drains to the surface of your skin sometimes gets blocked and then bacteria starts to grow.

What is the difference between a Whitehead and a Blackhead?

A whitehead is caused when trapped oil (sebum) gets stuck below the skin.  A blackhead occurs when a pore opens up and the oil (sebum) oxidises and turns brown to black in colour.

What Causes Acne?

Acne is caused by our hormones.  When our hormones surge this created more oil in our skin.  This is the reason why acne is more prevalent in teenagers and in women before their periods.

If you are an acne sufferer you know the emotional pain associated with acne.  Whilst fighting acne can seem like a losing battle there are plenty of remedies out there whether they be home remedies or medication which will help to significantly reduce the visibility of existing acne.

The trick to controlling your acne is finding what works best for your skin whether it be a home remedy or an acne medication.  Once you have found what works best for your skin be consistent and patient.  Most acne treatments take time to work.  The average time it takes for most acne treatments to be noticeable is between two and eight weeks.
I know having acne can be frustrating and it is very easy to try one acne remedy for a few days and be disappointed with the results.  Just remember that there isn’t much you can do to stop new breakouts so you will always be fighting with new acne coming out.  Have a look around this blog and try some of the natural remedies for acne.  I’ve found some of them to be even more effective than acne medication.  Good luck on your journey to be acne free!
